ST’s Kirkop site is our largest packaging and testing center in Europe. We produce advanced chip packages, including for MEMS sensors and for automotive applications, meeting the most stringent quality and reliability requirements. ST began manufacturing at Kirkop in 1981 and has grown to 1,800 employees, becoming one of Malta's largest private employers.
ST is continuously investing to transition its Malta operations to Industry 4.0 standards through the refurbishment and expansion of facilities. By incorporating both digitalization and automation initiatives, we aim to further optimize manufacturing processes, logistics, and scheduling by combining the most efficient mix of human and machine capabilities.
On a quarterly basis, we conduct town hall meetings with shopfloor employees to keep them informed about our business situation, site priorities, and upcoming activities. Additionally, we invite randomly chosen operators to informal discussions bi-weekly to hear their feedback and answer questions. These initiatives help cultivate a culture of openness and inclusion.
Proud of our 55+ nationalities and varied backgrounds, we celebrate the rich diversity of ST’s Kirkop site with different activities such as Diversity Week, Women’s Month, Maltese Cultural Days and many more. The speeches, interviews, trivia and fun activities reflect our commitment to creating an inclusive environment where every voice is heard and valued.
When people contribute, perform and get results, we feel they should be rewarded.

ST’s Kirkop site recently commissioned the first module of the deionized water plant modernization initiative, enhancing production efficiency and minimizing water wastage. This technology ensures a consistent supply of high-quality water. Upon full modernization, we expect increased water recycling, reduced chemical and energy usage, and a more efficient water treatment infrastructure.
ST’s Kirkop site spans over 60,000 m² and features endemic and indigenous trees in dedicated habitats. Over the years, more than 12,000 plants and trees have been planted across Malta, including 950 plants ST gave to visitors during its Open Day back in 2019. In 2024, we established a 'Bird Park' within our garden, providing shelter for birds to further our commitment to biodiversity.
