Three-phase electricity meters are designed essentially to measure energy consumption and its quality factor, as well as provide means to prevent tampering.

Today's 3-phase smart meters can connect to a wide-area network (WAN) and the cloud, through a data concentrator and a home area network together with in-home devices, in addition to gas and water meters. This enables the Automatic Metering Infrastructure (AMI) that helps utilities better manage customer services and encourage consumers to embrace energy-savvy behavior to optimize their costs.

ST's solutions for 3-phase meter designs

We offer a broad range of energy metering ICs, high-performance STM32 microcontrollers, secure elements and high-efficiency AC-DC converters.

Our field-proven, programmable Power Line Communication (PLC) solutions support a variety of specifically developed standards, including G3-PLC, PRIME and Meters-and-More.

Sub-GHz wireless connectivity solutions are also available, supporting wM-Bus, LoRa and Sigfox low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) protocols.

We provide a comprehensive set of hardware and software evaluation and development tools, including reference designs to help develop accurate and reliable 3-phase energy meters.
