A compact LoRaWAN™ implementation board for evaluation and development purposes

USI® in partnership with STMicroelectronics have developed the I-NUCLEO-LRWAN1 STM32 LoRa® ArduinoTM compliant expansion board. This integrated tool allows learning and developing solutions with LoRa® and/or FSK/OOK technologies. I-NUCLEO-LRWAN1 features a USI proprietary LoRaWANTM module addressing low-cost and low-power wide area network (LPWAN). The USI® module comes pre-loaded with embedded AT-command stack. It is as small as 13x13 mm and it operates in ISM bands ranging from 868 to 930 MHz.

The I-NUCLEO-LRWAN1 board features the USI LoRaWANTM module, ArduinoTM connectors, an SMA connector as well as a 50 ohm antenna and three environmental sensors from STMicroelectronics:

  • LSM303AGR: accelerometer and magnetometer
  • HTS221: relative humidity and temperature sensor
  • LPS22HB: pressure sensor

USI® LoRaWAN module features

  • Ultra-low-power STM32L0 Series, Cortex® -M0+ based MCU with 64 Kbytes of Flash memory, 8 Kbytes of RAM, 2 Kbytes of EEPROM, T-RNG and PCROP
  • Embedded 32.768 kHz crystal (connected to STM32L0) and 32 MHz crystal (connected to the SX1272)
  • SX1272 transceivers with LoRa® long-range modem and FSK, GFSK, MSK, GMSK and OOK modulation
  • 157 dB maximum link budget
  • +20 dBm, 100 mW constant RF output versus supply voltage
  • +14 dBm high-efficiency PA
  • Bidirectional end-devices with Class A and Class C protocol support
  • EU 868 MHz ISM band ETSI (European telecommunications standards institute) compliant
  • US 915 MHz ISM band FCC (federal communications commission) compliant
  • An application included for LoRaWAN™ certification tests

Used together with the I-CUBE-LRWAN certified software solution and the LoRaWAN™-compliant Class A stack based on STM32Cube, the HW bundle is an excellent development tool for developers to practice and build LoRaWAN™ solutions.​
