Hot swap and ideal diode controller for high-redundancy power architectures

Designed for 12 V or 24 V supply rails, the STPM801 ensures the availability of a voltage supply while protecting loads and outputs against high-voltage transients and other disturbances typically found on supply lines.

With integrated hot swap, soft start and ORing protections, the STPM801 protects loads from high-voltage transients, limiting and regulating the output during an overvoltage event, such as load dump, by controlling the voltage drop across an external N-channel MOSFET.

It is especially interesting to use the STPM801 when two supply lines are present and it is important to guarantee the continuity of the supply. In this case, an auxiliary supply line can replace the main line when it is out of order (undervoltage issue or any other malfunction).

The STPM801 also offers a set of features to support applications that need to fulfill functional safety requirements as defined by automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) A-B-C-D depending on application specifications.

Evaluation board

The STEVAL-STPM801 is an evaluation board that provides a complete test environment for STPM801, allowing the possibility to work with a dual supply line approach. User can evaluate the hot swap and ORing functions between the two input supplies, taking advantage of STPM801 control.

Application note

STPM801 is a controller which operates in conjunction with external back-to-back connected N-channel power MOSFETs, realizing a connection between the input voltage supply line, and the output supply line. The main advantage of integrating STPM801 in the application is the availability of a voltage supply, protected against high voltage transients and all the disturbances that are typically present on the supply lines.
