Raw Materials

Raw materials

Our responsibility begins with the raw materials we use, which are all sourced in line with the latest environmental and social guidelines.

Complying with legislation and with our customers' requirements regarding the EHS, social and ethical impact of our raw materials, is a fundamental component of our sustainability programs. ST annually reviews its banned, exempted and declarable substances against applicable regulations and agreed customer's requirements, and deploys it throughout the supply chain.

Materials Declaration

To comply with legislation and customer requirements regarding the exclusion of certain chemical substances from our products, each ST product is accompanied by a ‘Materials Declaration’ form which publicly discloses the substances included in the device. Through our EHS Regulated Substances specification we maintain a list of all substances that must not be included in our products. This specification is rigorously implemented in all of our manufacturing sites and in our supply chain. You can read more on Materials Declaration here.

Ecopack® is an ST trademark for products that exceed applicable environmental requirements such as REACH and RoHS.
ST products are classified according to the following grades:

  • ECOPACK® : Compliant with the RoHS directive, have second level interconnect lead free (with adapted reliability for soldering at higher temperature) and compliant with the ELV Directive
  • ECOPACK®2: ECOPACK® + free of brominated, chlorinated and antimony-oxide flame retardants
  • ECOPACK®3: ECOPACK®2 + free of halogens with no RoHS exemptions

Conflict minerals

Responsible sourcing means we can identify the origin of the 3TG (Tantalum, Tin, Tungsten and Gold) metals contained in our products and ensure their extraction does not have a negative impact on people. We require the smelters in our upstream supply chain to be engaged in the Conflict-Free Sourcing Initiative (CFSI).

Hazardous Substances Process Management (HSPM)

ST's process to manage hazardous substances is aligned with the IECQ1 QC 080000 Hazardous Substances Process Management (HSPM) standard. We collect data from all our material suppliers to assess the content of substances in each device, enhancing traceability and complying with customer demand.
