Learn more about secure wireless device charging
How does secure authentication enhance Qi charging?
Secure authentication is necessary to attest that a mobile device and Qi-certified charger are compatible, unlock the extended power profile (EPP), and safely enable fast charging capability with up to 15W of power.
What is the extended power profile (EPP)?
The extended power profile is a new feature introduced in the WPC Qi V1.3 specification, enabling fast charging with up to 15W of power, well above the basic 5W limit of the baseline power profile (BPP).
What is the WPC?
The Wireless Power Consortium or WPC is an organization of more than 350 member companies committed to the worldwide compatibility of wireless chargers for a safer and more streamlined user experience. STMicroelectronics is a regular member of the WPC and provides solutions dedicated for wireless charging compliant with the latest WPC Qi specifications.
What does the WPC Qi V1.3 specification include?
The Qi V1.3 specification mandates the integration of hardware-based authentication to detect foreign objects and enable power transfer above 5W for devices with an extended power profile. Discover all the reasons why designers should integrate a Qi V1.3 compliant secure element in our whitepaper.
