For refrigerators and freezers, like all major appliances, energy efficiency and noiseless operation are key design considerations. But unlike other appliances, they are required to operate continuously making efficiency even more important.  In addition, they are becoming increasingly more connected to exploit the opportunities offered by cloud connectivity and mobile apps that monitor things like the refrigerator's food content humidity and temperature.

To help design efficient motor control solutions for the various types of motors found in these appliances (e.g. 3-phase brushless, universal, etc.), ST offers a wide range of STM32 microcontrollers, power MOSFETs, IGBTs and intelligent power modules (IPMs), triacs and AC switches together with high-voltage gate drivers, as well as a complete set of hardware and software evaluation and development tools.

ST also has a broad range of advanced MEMS motion and environmental sensors, as well as wired and wireless connectivity solutions, to help in the design of connected, efficient and user-friendly refrigerators and freezers.
