Zigbee® is an IEEE 802.15.4-based wireless protocol designed by the Zigbee Alliance. Zigbee is a reliable, low-power and interoperable protocol that shows high immunity in noisy RF environments. Zigbee PRO certification ensures smart object interoperability, enabling IoT devices from different vendors to work together.
IEEE 802.15.4 is a technical standard managed by the IEEE 802.15 working group. It defines the physical layer, providing a generic standard for the MAC layer that acts as the foundation of several protocols, including Zigbee.
ST is a member of the Zigbee Alliance, has a seat on the Board of Directors as Zigbee solution promoter, and is a council member of the Zigbee Alliance Member Group China (ZMGC).

Our STM32WB 2.4GHz wireless MCUs come with a comprehensive, robust and certified environment that includes the Zigbee PRO 2017 software stack.
The STM32WB Zigbee solution is based on the market-proven Zigbee PRO 2017 protocol stack and supports 46 Zigbee 3.0 clusters, making it ideal for home or building automation, data collection in medical devices, and small-scale wireless projects requiring low-power and low-bandwidth. Using Zigbee PRO with Zigbee 3.0 ZCL allows developers to speed up the certification process and reduces product development costs.
For early Zigbee adopters who have been following the evolution of this standard, further 21 clusters support legacy products to ensure continuity in their portfolio.
A certified platform offering several capability features, the STM32WB offers FFD (Full Feature Device) and RFD (Reduced Feature Device) configurations thereby providing more freedom in device sizing and over-the-air (OTA) capability.
STM32WB is also suitable for battery-powered and batteryless applications thanks to Green power support. It is also compatible with Smart Energy 1.4 by Zigbee Alliance to enable easy implementation of power and energy management applications such as smart meters.
