STM32WL5x/Ex

Ultra-low power multi-modulation wireless STM32WL5x/STM32WLEx microcontrollers

The STM32WL5x and STM32WLEx are microcontrollers operating at 48 MHz, based on Arm® Cortex®-M4 (STM32WL5x/STM32WLEx) and Cortex®-M0+ (STM32WL5x) cores. They incorporate a Semtech SX126x sub-GHz radio, offering an open platform compatible with LoRa® (for STM32WL5x and STM32WLE5 ), (G)FSK, (G)MSK and BPSK modulations.

Diagram illustrating the components of the STM32WL5, the world’s first LoRa® System on Chip (SoC). It depicts the STM32L4 microcontroller, LoRa® modulation technologies (GFSK, GMSK, BPSK), an Arm Cortex-M0+ core, and a security lock icon combined on a single silicon die, resulting in the STM32WL5 chip.

Thanks to a deep integration, the innovative and open architecture is optimized for low-power wide area networks, legacy/proprietary protocols, flexible resource use, and power management, resulting in lower BOM cost and a better user experience.

Developed using the same technology as our ultra-low-power STM32L4 microcontrollers, the STM32WL5x and STM32WLEx lines provide a similar digital and analog peripheral set suitable for basic and complex applications requiring an extended battery life and a long RF range through a sub-GHz transceiver.
