Sigfox wireless connectivity employs a proprietary technology which uses the 868 MHz (Europe) and 902 MHz (US) frequencies in the Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) radio band. It utilizes ultra-narrowband modulation to enable low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) communication that provides a wide-reaching signal as it can freely pass through solid objects while requiring little energy. The network is based on a one-hop star topology and requires a mobile operator to carry the generated traffic. It ensures long-range communication at a very attractive power budget enabling devices in the network to be powered through energy harvesting technologies.
Sigfox and ST have partnered to provide silicon solutions that enable the implementation of cost-effective Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Internet-of-Things (IoT) networks.
