On-demand webinar: Learn about ST's smart IIoT nodes for predictive maintenance solutions

Discover ST’s newest products and tools for fast prototyping and development of your smart IIoT nodes

Predictive maintenance (PdM) is a key component of smart industry that involves monitoring equipment during machinery operation to detect early the warning signs of potential failures. PdM is largely based on condition monitoring (CM) through the analysis of sound emissions, increased power consumption, temperature but in majority cases by monitoring of vibrations, which is the most common method to detect imbalance, misalignment and other anomalies in machines.

Traditional vibration sensing instruments are based on piezoelectric technology, but capacitive MEMS technology is gaining popularity in this field for various reasons involving flexibility and cost, and the fact that MEMS sensors are closing the gap to piezoelectric sensors in terms of bandwidth and dynamic range.

In this webinar, you will learn about the signal processing techniques used during the standard equipment operation to extract many of the parameters used for diagnostics and PdM, directly from an accelerometer integrated in a smart node.

A complete PdM system solution from sensing, processing and RF communication will be covered.

  • Introduction to Predictive Maintenance (PdM) and Condition Monitoring (CM)
  • A review of ST’s MEMS and Sensor portfolio including our new IIS3DWB MEMS vibrometer
  • An overview of our development ecosystem including hardware and software tools for designing PdM and CM applications
  • How to simplify prototyping and testing of advanced industrial IoT applications using our new SensorTile Wireless Industrial Node (STWIN) development kit and reference design
