ST’s ultra-low-power MCU platform is based on a proprietary ultra-low-leakage technology and optimized design.
Designers of energy efficient embedded systems and applications have with STM32 ultra-low-power microcontrollers a rich choice of balance between performance, power, security and cost effectiveness: from the STM8L (8-bit proprietary core) up to the STM32L4 (32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M4) including the STM32L0 (Arm® Cortex®-M0+) and the STM32L1 (Arm® Cortex®-M3). The STM32L5 (Arm® Cortex®-M33) with its enhanced security features is the latest addition to this rich portfolio.
With the industry’s lowest current variation between 25 and 125 °C, STM8L/STM32L solutions guarantee outstandingly low current consumption at elevated temperatures. The MCUs reach the industry's lowest power consumption of 170 nA in lowest power mode with SRAM retention. Wake-up times have also been taken into consideration and are as low as 3.5 μs from Stop mode.
The STM32L5 series enhanced security features leverage Arm® Cortex®-M33 and its TrustZone® for Armv8-M. Thanks to this new core and a new ST ART Accelerator™ (supporting now also external memory), the STM32L5 reaches 427 CoreMark.
The STM32L4 series offers the excellence of ST’s ultra-low-power platform with an additional performance dimension by providing
100 DMIPS with DSP instructions and floating-point unit (FPU), more memory (up to 1 Mbyte of Flash memory) and innovative features.
The STM32L4+ series extends STM32L4 technology by offering higher performance (120 MHz/409 CoreMark executing from internal Flash memory), larger embedded memories (up to 2 Mbytes of Flash memory and 640 Kbytes of SRAM), and more advanced graphic features with no compromise on its ultra-low power consumption capability.
The STM32L0 series offers a genuine energy-saving solution for entry-level applications. Available in tiny packages down to 14-pin and with a wide range of Flash memory densities from 8 to 192 Kbytes, the STM32L0 combines ultra-low power consumption with a competitive portfolio.
The STM32Cube.AI is an extension pack of the widely used STM32CubeMX configuration and code generation tool enabling AI on STM32 Arm® Cortex®-M-based microcontrollers.
Security has emerged as one of the 3 key areas that developers of embedded and IoT applications are thriving to improve. The STM32L5 microcontroller series is the solution and provide a new optimal balance between performance, power and security. The STM32L5 MCU series harnesses the security features of the Arm Cortex-M33 processor and its TrustZone for Armv8-M combined with ST security implementation. ST-proprietary ultra-low-power technologies create a class-leading MCU for energy-conscious applications such as Internet of things (IoT), medical, industrial and consumer. Offering up to 512 Kbytes of flash (dual bank) memory and 256 Kbytes of SRAM, the STM32L5 series of microcontrollers reaches an upgraded level of performance (427 CoreMark) thanks to this new core and a new ST ART Accelerator™ (supporting now also external memory). The STM32L5 offers a large portfolio with 7 packages (from 48 to 144 pins) and supports up to 125°C ambient temperature.
