Industrial printers are widely used in factories and logistic warehouses to produce large quantities of documents, barcodes and labels which need to be printed out on different types of surfaces other than paper.
Motion control sub-systems operate inside industrial printers in order to perform the necessary tasks to ensure a smooth printing process. From aligning the printing head to picking up, feeding and cutting paper, printers use a variety of motors including stepper motors, brushed DC motors – with and without optical encoders – as well as 3-phase BLDC motors with position feedback.

ST offers a broad portfolio of power MOSFETs, STSPIN monolithic motor drivers, high-performance STM32 microcontrollers and microprocessors, power discretes including IGBTs and Power MOSFETs and diodes, Intelligent Power Modules (IPM SLLIMM™), plastic power modules (ACEPACK™) as well as a large selection of AC-DC and DC-DC power management and power supply solutions, motion, environmental and ranging sensors and connectivity solutions to help design high-volume, high-performance industrial printers.
